Separate section at the conference: “XVIII. year of the Olomouc Legal Days”, 22-23. May 2025, Olomouc. Members of the ČAES actively presented their contributions within the separate section of this important conference. Several contributions focused on the issue of the rule of law in the context of European integration and modern technologies, including the connection with the field of human rights.
International conference: “Integration of Ukraine into the European Union: Challenges under martial law conditions. In memory of Professor P. P. Zavorotko and Professor V. N. Denisov”. From 4 to 6 November 2024, the ČAES co-organized an international conference in Kiev with the Ukrainian Institute of State and Law, at which several members of the ČAES spoke.
International conference: “Pavlo Petrovych Zavorotko: “Iustitia in Corde”. Current trends in the field of Ukrainian, European and international law and international relations”. On October 23 and 24, 2024, ČAES members actively participated in an international conference that took place in Kiev. The conference was co-organized by ČAES.
A separate section at the conference: “XVIIth year of Olomouc Legal Days”, May 23-24, 2024, Olomouc. ČAES members actively presented their contributions as part of a separate section at the most important legal conference in the Czech Republic. The event also awarded ČAES awards and celebrated the successes of the journal European Studies – The Review of European Law, Politics and Economy, which was included in the prestigious SCOPUS database.
International Conference: “EU Responses to the Challenges of Modern Society”. On 26 and 27 April 2023, a major conference focused on the current challenges of European integration and in particular the issues of modern technologies took place. The conference was attended by almost 40 experts who presented contributions in six sections. These were devoted to hybrid threats, issues of modern technologies and their impact on human rights, robotization and artificial intelligence, competition law and the digital economy, cybersecurity and consumer protection in the online environment.
Round table: “Digitalization, robotization and cybersecurity as key priorities for the future development of the EU and its member states”, which took place on 28 March 2023 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Prague in Olomouc. The participants included, among others, Ivan Bartoš, Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and Minister responsible for digitalization, and Joachim Schwerin, a leading expert of the European Commission in the field of digitalization from the Directorate-General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs.
International conference: “Legal and political issues of cybersecurity and the fight against disinformation in the process of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union”. On March 16 and 17, 2023, an international conference was held in Kiev in cooperation with ČAES at Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev. The conference featured about three dozen speakers, including, for example, Jaroslav Kurfürst from the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Pavel Telička, former chief negotiator for EU accession, European Commissioner and Vice-President of the European Parliament.
Workshop: “Modern technologies in teaching and EU legal practice – new approaches and challenges in times of war in Ukraine”. On November 3, 2022, a large international workshop was held, dedicated to several sections related to teaching in the digital age, the role of modern technologies and legal practice, or robotization and related issues. The workshop featured about two dozen speakers, including members of the ČAES, as well as speakers from Ukraine, Slovakia, Estonia, and Germany.
Roundtable: “Dissemination of disinformation in cyberspace and mass media as means of Russian propaganda and defense against them”. The participants of the roundtable were PhDr. Miroslav Karas, director of the ČT Ostrava studio, former foreign correspondent of ČT in Russia and Ukraine, and doc. JUDr. Naděžda Šišková, Ph.D., head of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in EU Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Prague in Olomouc. This event took place in person at the PF UP and online on April 26, 2022 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Interested parties must register in advance (you can find the link in the attached invitation) no later than April 24, 2022.

International scientific conference: “European Digital Single Market: the current and future challenges in the European union law”, 21-22 June 2021. The conference brought together researchers from several countries who shared research results in the field of artificial intelligence and its application in practice, cybersecurity issues, human rights issues in the digital era or also in the field of ethical challenges in the digital age, especially in connection with the provision of healthcare, consumer protection, data management and a climate-neutral Europe in the context of the EU digital market.
Online Workshop: “Competition Law and Digital Technologies”, 27 April 2021. The workshop had three thematic sections: Court decisions and their impact on competition law; regulation of digital markets; and competition law and artificial intelligence.
Roundtable: “Digital Future for European Consumers”, 13 November 2020, where 60 participants debated current challenges in consumer protection issues, especially regarding data protection and the regulation of internet “giants”.
Roundtable with Members of the European Parliament: “The Future of Robotization, Digitalization and Cybersecurity”, 8 November 2020. Vice-President of the European Parliament Dita Charanzová and former Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament Pavel Svoboda debated with Chair of the ČAES Naděžda Šišková current issues of robotization, digitalization and cybersecurity from the perspective of legislators.
BALANCING CYBER-SECURITY AND PRIVACY Workshop organised by Jean Monnet Network at Faculty of Law, Palacký University on February 27–28, 2020 at Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. Over the two days of February 27th and 28th, 2020, Jean Monnet Network of Faculty of Law, Palacký University brought together experts and specialists from several European universities for a critical examination of legal regulation of cyber-security and privacy. The event combined expert panel presentations by specialists, with structured discussion sessions on the challenges and opportunities in the era of the digital age.
The two-day event comprised several sessions and discussions, conference participants were also invited to attend the conference dinner, hosted prior the first day of the workshop.
The opening session was addressed by by Assoc. Prof. et Assoc. Prof. JUDr. Naděžda Šišková, Ph.D., head of Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in EU Law at Palacky University who declared the Conference officially open at the end of her statement on EU and Challenges of Modern Society.
The keynote speaker, JUDr. Soňa Matochová, Ph.D. then delivered a speech on the data protection, followed by Mgr. et Mgr. Ondřej Filipec, Ph.D., Tanel Kerikmäe, LL.M, LL.Lic, Ph.D and doc. RNDr. Daniel Olejár, PhD.
In her introductory address, JUDr. Soňa Matochová, Ph.D. gave a brief overview of the current legal regulation of data. She presented the principles of data protection regulation, explaining the methodology and rules of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) which contributes to the accomplishment of an area of freedom, security and justice and of an economic union, to economic and social progress, and to the strengthening of the economies within the EU internal market. Mgr. et Mgr. Ondřej Filipec, Ph.D. informed about latest trends in the cybersecurity of healthcare and provided case study analysis dedicated to the Benešov hospital which was hit by Ryuk ransomware in December 2019. With the use of “Swiss Cheese” model used for analysis of IT incidents, Dr. Filipec developed framework for analysing organizational factors influencing effective response to the incidents. Tanel Kerikmäe, LL.M, LL.Lic, Ph.D dedicated his presentation to the latest trends in IT development in Estonia and opened debate about several aspects on artificial intelligence (AI), especially in relation to accepting legal personality of the AI, copyrights related to the AI or taxation of the work produced by the AI. Dr. Kerikmäe provided interesting examples from the Estonian experience with their own national AI called „Kratt“. Doc. RNDr. Daniel Olejár, PhD. emphasised the actual challenges within the IT area and highlighted problematic aspects of relationship between security, functionality and privacy. He stressed, that even small users might be valuable targets due to relatively sophisticated methods of attackers who are always few steps ahead.
In the afternoon sessions, each speaker was given 15 minutes to present, followed by 5-10 minutes for questions. Mária, T. Patakyová, JUDr., PhD. presented selected issues of private entities in the Cyber-security area, Matúš Mesarčík, JUDr., LLM delivered presentation on several aspects of privacy in the cyber-security context. Another speaker, Jozef Andraško, JUDr., PhD. provided interesting data about the cybersecurity incident notification, Petra Dražová, Mgr. dealt with criminal law aspects of the cybersecurity offenses and Mgr. Zlotán Gyurász dedicated his presentation to the uniqueness of internet of things devices.
The workshop was organised within the prestigious Jean Monnet Network project “European Union and the Challenges of Modern Society: Legal issues of digitalization, robotization, cyber security and prevention of hybrid threats“ coordinated and managed by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Law at the Palacký University Faculty of Law, headed by Assoc. Prof. Naděžda Šišková. The project deals with issues which are very important for everyday lives in the digital society and which are not covered by relevant literature. The international team consists of academics from five prominent European universities – the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in Olomouc at UP, the University of Heidelberg, Tallinn University of Technology, Comenius University in Bratislava, and the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev.
In the next months, the project team will hold a series of lectures, round tables, workshops, and academic and student conferences in Tallinn, Prague, Kiev and Karlovy Vary.

Jean Monnet International Scientific Conference 2018 entitled „The Future of the EU and European Law (Including Relevant Issues of National Law of the Member States“. Faculty of Law, Palacký University in Olomouc, 19. 4. – 20. 4. 2018. This forum covered the broadest range of legal, political and economic issues – from the reform of the EU itself, its institutions and the redistribution of competences between the Union and its Member states; new challenges for the Union and their solution, impact on current reforms and evolution at the level of national law etc. The aim of the conference was to contribute from scientific approaches to the current political debate taking place at European and national level, including an analytical assessment of possible scenarios of future developments, an evaluation of its potential impacts and formulation of future proposals.
Round Table Debate organised on 23rd March 2018. The guest was judge of General Court of the EU Jan M. Passer. He presented and discussed the topic of Functioning of Two EU Courts, their Relation, Differences and Distinctions from National Courts. The event welcomed students, academics and legal professionals.

Round table debate with the president of Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic Pavel Rychetský on the topic of Relation between EU Law and Czech Law from the Perspective of the Constitutional Court. The debate was held on 6th December 2017 in lecture hall of Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc. It was chaired by prof, Naděžda Šišková and welcomed the students, academics, representatives of media and general public.

Jean Monnet International Scientific Conference 2017 entitled „The EU in time of multicrisis and its greatest challenges: up-to-date solutions, future visions and prospects. Czech Republic, Prague, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic – (Czernin Palace, the Grand Hall, Loreta Square 5, Prague 1, 118 00), 22. 5. – 23. 5. 2017. Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in EU law at the Faculty of Law, Palacký University in Olomouc in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and Czech Association for European Studies organised the international scientific conference as one of the main outputs of the Centre activities in 2017. This Jean Monnet event involved the renowned speakers from College of Europe in Bruges, European University Institute in Florence, Kings´ College in London, Ghent University, Heidelberg University, University of Innsbruck, Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and other prominent academic institutions dealing with the European integration issues.
Student Conference 2017 entitled „Human Rights as the Part of Common European Values. Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc, 2. 5. 2017. In the second year of the project implementation Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence continued in the tradition of organising the scientific students´ conferences. The second volume of the conference was held in the premises of Faculty of Law under the auspices of the Dean of Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc, on 2nd May 2017. The topic of the conference was Human Rights as the the Part of Common European Values. Conference involved the students from the differenct study programmes at Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc (Master in Law, Bachelor in Public Administration, Master in European Studies), who preseted the papers on more than 20 actual topics.

The lecture took place in the round hall at the Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc on 16th April 2017.

Round table debate with the members of the European Parliament Pavel Svoboda and Pavel Telička on the topic European Union at the Crossroads: Where should We Go in the Time of Crisis. Round debate was held on 1st November 2016 in the main lecture hall at Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc. The event welcomed the students of the 8 faculties of the Palacky University, teachers and researchers, Representatives of Czech Parliament, general public, local and central media. The debate was chaired by prof. Nadezda Šišková.
Students conference 2016 with the title „The Protection of Human Rights at the Level of the EU. Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc, 10. 5. 2016. During the first year of the project implementation Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence prepared and organised successful International Students´ Conference. The conference was held in the premises of Faculty of Law under the auspices of the Rector of Palacký University prof. Jaroslav Miller. The topic of the conference was The Protection of Human Rights at the level of the EU. Conference involved the teachers and researchers from the faculties of law and international relations from Olomouc (Palacký University), Brno (Masaryk university), Prague (Charles University), Bratislava (Pan-European University) and Košice ( P. J. Šafárik University).
Lecture of the Soňa Matochová (from the Constituonal Court of the Czech Republic) was held at the Palacky University on 15. 3. 2016 on the topic The European Judgements of the Czech Constitutional Court and their analysis. The lecture was adressed to the students of the Faculty of law, Political sciences and Pedagogical sciences.
Lecture of Director of the Department of the Czech Ministry of Agriculture Jiří Georgiev was held on 12. 2. 2016 at the Charles University on the Topic Extraordinary measures for solving of the crisis in Eurozone in the case-law of the Court of Justice of the EU and the German Federal Constitutional Court. Lecture with the discussion was adressed to the teachers and the researchers of the Palacky and Charles University and the members of the Czech Association for European Studies.
Lecture of the Head of the department of the European law of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs Emil Ruffer held on 12. 2. 2016 at the Charles University on the topic New procedure for streightening of the rule of law in Poland and its activation towards the Poland: some legal aspects. Lecture connected with the discussion was addressed to the teachers and researchers of the palacky University and Charles University and to the Members of the Czech Association for European Studies.
Round table debate with the member of the European Parliament Pavel Telička on the topic The current state and the future of the European parliament by the glance of the Member of the EP. Round debate was held on 3rd November 2015 in the main lecture hall at Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc. The event welcomed the students of the 8 faculties of the Palacky University, teachers and researchers, Representatives of Czech Parliament, general public, local and central media. The debate was chaired by prof. Nadezda Šišková.

CAES members were participating also in the following events organized unted Consortium, dealing with project “Eastern Patrnership and its prospects with a view of legal approximation, rule of law and human rights”:
The workshop with the title “EU Law and Human Rights in Education and Civil Sector of the Partnership States” took place in Bratislava (3rd, 4th May 2012) under the patronage of the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia. It was organised by the Institute of International Relations and Comparative Law, Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava. This forum opened the project and gave floor for the presentations and discussions among representatives (secondary school and university teachers, researchers, members of diplomatic corpus, representatives of the state administration as well as civil sector and NGO´s) from Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Belarus and from Member States (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Germany). The workshop was attended by the approximately 50 participants. The main accent was given to the promotion of the EU integration issues, including the examination of the level of introduction of the EU law and human rights subjects in the curricula of the universities, high and secondary schools of the Partnership states. Workshop brought a chance for the empirical assessment, comparison and recommendations concerning the improving of the education, teaching and training on EU matters and human rights in these countries, using the experience of old and new Member States. Important part of the workshop was the organization of the round-table debate between members of the Consortium. The members of the project team got the opportunity for a tête-à-tête deliberation, management of the roles and duties within the project and presentation for the scientific outputs of their individual research.
The Conference with the title “Preparedness for the Acceptation of the Duties of the Association Country in the Field of Human Rights, Approximation of Laws and Judicial and Administrative Capacity” which was held in Kiev (Kiev-Mohyla Academy, 8th and 9th October 2012) represented the second academic event within the fulfilment of the project goals and outcomes. This event hosted about 100 participants. Conference was organised as the multilateral and multilevel meeting which involved the academics, the representatives of Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, Ombudsman of Ukraine, judges, lawyers and members of NGO´s. The Conference was intended to be the forum for the exchanging of the ideas and experience among the academics and representatives of the judicial bodies and state institutions, which participated (Czech Republic, Slovakia) or are participating (Ukraine) in the process of legal approximation in the Partnership states. This international conference was dedicated to the evaluation of progress in the areas related to the association of the Ukraine with the EU and led to the formulation of general proposals for the future development. Also in Kiev, the round table debate among the members of the consortium took part of the conference. The members of the project team got another opportunity for the presentation for the scientific outputs of their individual research.
The Conference with the title “From the Eastern Partnership to the Association Agreements – the Great Debate” was held in Prague (17th and 18th June 2013). It was organised by the Palacky University in cooperation with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and under auspices of the Commissioner for the enlargement Štefan Fülle. The final conference served as the key forum for presentation of the main results in all directions of the scientific research, which had been realised during the project realization. This forum hosted more than 150 participants. It involved the academics from the Member States and from of the Partnership states (Ukraine, Georgia). Besides this the representatives of the state administration, public sector, diplomatic representations a well as representatives of civil sector from Partnership and Member states took place at this forum. This variety of participants helped to gain the multidisciplinary synergy and valuable outcomes of the conference. The Conference was intent to stimulate not only the deepening of the scientific debate in the areas related to the Eastern Partnership among the academics from the Member and Partnership, but also to contribute significantly to the elaboration of the EU strategies. The content of presentations and level of discussions within the conference fulfilled this goal a furthermore led to the creation of proposals concerning the improvement of preparedness of Partner states to take over the EU standards. The conference was concepted to be a final summarization summit which presented the results of the research conducted by members of the Group but at the same time as the as a forum which launch a discussion among academics all over the Europe. In connection with the conference the final round-table debate took place also in Prague (16th June 2013). Meeting of the members of consortium focused exclusively on the articulation of the scientific conclusions, setting the content of the monograph and corrections.
